Which is the easiest musical instrument to learn and play?

There is no right or wrong answer to the question above, as the answer is completely relative to the learner, and it highly depends on their age and their commitment toward practice.

Guitar and piano are two versatile musical instruments that are loved across the globe, by children and adults alike. However, which of the two to learn is a common dilemma of potential learners.

Some reasons why the piano is much easier to learn as compared to the guitar

Tuning is not required for the piano

A lot of musical instruments require perfect tuning before they can be played with the right approach, including the guitar and the violin. As for the piano, no tuning is required and this is especially great for beginners as they can start their practice right away without needing to wait for their tutor or a senior to help.

There is a tug-of-war between guitar and piano for potential learners who are in a dilemma but as far as ease of learning is concerned, the piano might be on the winning side.

Even a beginner can make the piano sound right

After tuning comes the playing part and the main part. The easier it is to play the instrument – both guitar and piano – the easier it is for beginners to get acquainted with the instrument. Once acquainted, learning becomes much simpler and more comprehensive.

In the case of guitar and the like, learners need to set their relevant muscles that would be engaged during play (such as fingers) with regular practice. After a while, they will be ready to actually play something on the instrument. Whereas with a piano, one need not exert much pressure, rather simply hit the keys as taught in music class.

There are many types of piano

There are several types of pianos available and the cost range is wide. Once one learns to play the piano or even a keyboard for that matter, one can easily play any type of piano.

The best part about being a pianist is that one gets to play on different pianos depending on where they are performing. Given that pianos could be super expensive, getting to play the rare types (including the ones that could be decades old) is a privilege.

Guitar and piano both have different types but in the case of the guitar, playing on different models could be comparatively and notably different.

Music theory is a priority

The piano perhaps has the highest number of written classical pieces (including those from world-famous musicians such as Beethoven) for musicians to perform and these writings date back many centuries.

Music theory is an important part of learning music but a lot of students who learn musical instruments other than the piano do not really study it.

In the case of the piano, learning music theory is a must and that is what forms the foundation for learning the basics. With a strong hold on basics, one can advance in lessons much faster. Guitar and piano playing both depend on how well the player knows their basics.

Learning to play the piano is learning a skill for life, although this one is not limited to learning the piano only and applies to learning any form of music for that matter.
