BEGINNER COURSE
The students get an opportunity to learn the basics of Hindustani music in our beginner course. The course is designed for students with no prior experience in Hindustani music. The students can learn the basics and varied elements of Hindustani Music including Swaras, Taalas, Raagas and other vocal techniques. The students can gain a deeper understanding of Indian traditional music and cultivate a rewarding hobby or a much-explored career path. Curriculum:
- Basic Sargam: Learning to sing the seven basic swaras (notes) – Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, Ni.
- Alankars: Practice of simple musical patterns (alankars) to develop voice control and pitch accuracy.
- Introduction to Ragas: Learning about the concept of ragas and basic ragas like Yaman, Bhupali, or Bhairavi.
- Taal (Rhythm): Introduction to basic taals like Teental (16 beats) and Dadratal (6 beats) and learning to sing along with them.
- Voice Training: Exercises to improve voice modulation, range, and clarity.
INTERMEDIATE COURSE
Build on your foundation with the GSS music school intermediate course in Hindustani music. The students will learn how to develop vocal ranges and explore in depth. The students have an opportunity to learn more complex Hindustani vocal compositions and to perform for their respective classmates and tutors. The students get a chance to expand their repertoire of Hindustani songs and compositions. This course is open to all who have a basic understanding of Hindustani music and want to learn more advanced concepts.
Curriculum:
- Advanced Ragas: Learning and practicing more complex ragas with a focus on their structure, emotion, and nuances.
- Taal (Rhythm): Exploring more intricate taals like Ektaal (12 beats), Jhaptaal (10 beats), and understanding laya (tempo) variations.
- Alaap and Taan: Introduction to Alaap and Taan, which are improvised melodic phrases in a raga.
- Composition: Composing and singing Bandish (compositions) in various ragas.
- Raga Development: Developing the ability to improvise within a raga and explore different facets of a raga.
ADVANCE COURSE
Attain mastery over Hindustani Vocal Music through GSS Music School’s advanced courses. This course can be taken up by students who are through with their intermediate courses. Students will learn the most advanced concepts of Hindustani music. The students will learn complex raga development and the usage of ornaments, embellishments, nuance and sophistication in their singing. The students will be able to sing complex Hindustani songs and compositions with confidence and artistry. The students also have an opportunity to learn and perform advanced Hindustani vocal compositions namely Dhrupad, Khayal, and Thumri. Practice with fellow musicians, record your voice in our studio and also perform live concerts.
Curriculum:
- Complex Ragas: Mastering intricate and less commonly taught ragas.
- Taan and Layakari: Developing expertise in complex Taans and Layakari (rhythmic variations).
- Raga Exposition: Learning to perform elaborative alaap, jod, and jhala in addition to the composition.
- Emotional Expression: Focusing on the emotional and aesthetic aspects of Hindustani classical music.
- Performance Practice: Preparing for stage performances, collaborating with instrumentalists, and showcasing individual style and creativity.
